Decompression Diver (formerly Deco 40)
Who is this course for?
The Decompression Diver course is perfect for experienced divers looking to advance to technical diving where decompression plays a key role. If you're ready to learn more about decompression techniques and how to apply them safely, this is the ideal next step in your diving adventure.
What will you learn?
During this course, you will gain in-depth knowledge about decompression models, gas management, and dive planning for dives requiring decompression stops. You’ll learn to safely dive to a maximum depth of 40 meters and use enriched air (EANx) with oxygen percentages up to 100% for decompression. You will also receive practical training in using twin tanks or stages to efficiently manage your gas supply.
Key components of the course:
- Theoretical knowledge: Understanding decompression principles, gas planning, and the use of specialized dive computers.
- Practical skills: Mastering gas switches underwater, buoyancy control, trim, and efficient teamwork during technical dives.
- Simulations: Performing controlled decompression stops and handling emergency scenarios such as gas failures or stage bottle loss.
Course requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Valid Advanced Open Water Diver certification or equivalent
- At least 50 logged dives, with some conducted recently at depths of 30 meters or more
- Valid certification in enriched air (EANx)
Course variation
For divers eager to take it a step further, there is also a variation of this course: the Trimix Decompression Diver. This course focuses on decompression dives to 45 meters using trimix (a gas mix of oxygen, nitrogen, and helium). It’s an excellent option for those looking to dive deeper or in more challenging conditions.
Why take this course?
The Decompression Diver course is not only a valuable step in your technical diving journey, but it also enables you to make longer and safer dives, even in challenging environments. It’s the perfect preparation for deeper technical courses like the Extended Decompression Diver, which allows dives to a maximum depth of 55 meters.
What do you get upon completion?
After successfully completing this course, you will receive a RAID Decompression Diver certification. This allows you to conduct decompression dives to a maximum depth of 40 meters, using oxygen-enriched gases for optimal decompression efficiency.
Course duration
The course typically takes 3 to 4 days, depending on your experience and conditions. This includes theory, pool training, and open water dives.
