The Tecline R2 TEC2 Side Mount Extreme Set is a complete regulator package for sidemount diving. It includes two R2 first stages with a fifth port and two TEC2 second stages in their reversible version. Both second stages run on short hoses, and two 90 degree swivels let the hoses leave the first stage at an angle. The set carries the EN250A marking.
Two short hoses or one long hose?
Despite the name, the Extreme set is not a heavier duty or more advanced version of Tecline's regular sidemount set. The only difference is the hose configuration. On the Extreme set, both second stages are on short hoses. The Tecline R2 TEC2 Side Mount Set pairs one short hose with a 210 cm long LP hose and a 90 degree elbow.
At Sidemount Academy, our advice for most divers is the standard set with the long hose. The Extreme set is for divers who specifically want to dive with two short hoses.
Reversible second stages
In sidemount, each cylinder has its own first stage, one on your left and one on your right. A reversible second stage can be set up to take the hose from either side, so both regulators sit the right way round in front of your mouth whichever side the cylinder is on.
The 90 degree swivels stop the short hoses from sticking straight out of the first stage and let them follow the cylinder instead. This keeps the hoses close to your body and your configuration tidy.

Why is this set called Extreme?
Extreme is simply the model name. What really sets it apart is just the choice of two short hoses, so Extreme does not mean the set is tougher or reserved for experienced divers.
Do I need a long hose for my sidemount course?
For the RAID Sidemount Fundamentals course, our advice is to train with a long hose configuration, not with this Extreme set. If you already own regulators and are unsure whether they suit your course, check with your instructor beforehand.
Can I convert the Extreme set to a long hose setup later?
Both sets use the same first and second stages. The difference lies in the hoses and angle fittings, so a conversion is possible in principle. Have it done by a technician who services Tecline regulators.
